Top Things to See and Do in Fulham, London
Rub shoulders with locals in Fulham, an upscale London neighbourhood dotted with boutique shops and expensive homes along the River Thames. Explore the 1,000-year-old Fulham Place, sip sauvignon at London Cru Winery or watch the match kick-off at Stamford Bridge.
Explore a pocket of London loved by its residents. Fulham is home to great restaurants, with River Café setting the bar high, along with an eclectic mix of designer shops, quaint cafés and a medieval palace. Its location close to the river means it’s an ideal place for waterfront walks and picnics. Just watch out for football fans flocking to watch Chelsea play at home. Here are Culture Trip’s recommendations of the best things to do in this area of southwest London.
Kick off with a tour at Chelsea Football Club
Stadium, Sports Center
Supporters and fans of the beautiful game will love the award-winning Stamford Bridge stadium tour and museum. The tour guides live and breathe this football club; they are brimming with facts as they enthusiastically share its story from 1905. You’ll be taken through the dressing room, press room and players’ tunnel, plus see medals and boots from the past. Don’t miss the Trophy Room, which includes the 2012 UEFA Champions League cup.
Marvel at hyperrealist art in the Plus One Gallery
Art Gallery
A firm fixture on the London art scene, Plus One Gallery was established in 2001 by Colin Pettit and Maggie Bollaert, the Fulham location being its third incarnation. The gallery is dedicated to the development of British and international contemporary hyperrealism, a genre of art resembling a high-resolution photograph. The exhibition programme includes still lifes, urban landscapes and human portraits.
Stretch your muscles at the House of Yoga
Yoga Studio
THOY, as it’s known locally, is a gorgeous light and airy studio with classes and workshops taught by a roster of fantastic teachers who know exactly how to get the best out of newbies, long-time yogis and creaky athletes in need of a stretch. Power Flow yoga is the flagship class – a sweaty, invigorating and dynamic vinyasa practice – while yin yoga, restorative yoga and meditation sessions are also popular. Open six days a week.
Gawp at vintage motorbikes in Warr's Harley Davidson
Shop
Rev up your trip to London with a visit to the UK’s biggest and oldest Harley Davidson dealership. It opened in 1924 and has been a meeting place for leather-clad bikers ever since. Here, you can take a look at HD originals up close, take one out as a rental or even sign up for an extreme two-wheel adventure. An epic 15,000km (9,320mi) relay tour through 13 countries in support of aid organisation Two Wheels For Life starts from this point every year in May.
Sip a fine vintage at the London Cru Winery
Winery
Add a visit to the UK’s first urban winery to your list – but blink and you may miss it. The winery is tucked away down a narrow alleyway in an old Victorian warehouse, which was once a gin distillery. Inside, you’ll find state-of-the-art winemaking facilities. London Cru was started-up by Cliff Roberson in 2013. It’s now on the wine lists of numerous Michelin-star restaurants in London and beyond. Enjoy wine tastings and regular events in this unique setting.
Enjoy afternoon tea at St Clements
Cafe, British
Stroll around Fulham Palace
Historical Landmark
Home to one of the city’s most important botanic gardens and the former residence of 133 bishops of London, Fulham Palace boasts a rich history. Queen Elizabeth I was guest of honour here at a lavish banquet in 1601. It’s surrounded by 13 acres (5ha) of beautiful walled gardens, full of beautiful flowers and trees – including Britain’s oldest holm oak. Take a tour of the palace and grounds, before making a pit stop in the café for tea and cake.
Book a table at the restaurant in Eel Brook Common
Restaurant, Lebanese
Green open space is something London does very well. Eel Brook Common is a tranquil space where you can rub shoulders with locals, away from the busy city centre. Look out for the bandstand built in 1894, cricket and football pitches provided in 1921 as well as two tennis courts. The restaurant, Miski Lebanese Dining & Bar, is a real gem, set inside a striking glass building. Expect a menu of high-end Mediterranean dishes.
