A woman in sunglasses enjoys an Italian aperitif and an Aperol spritz.

Sicily, for cooking classes in Palermo and a market tour in Syracuse

Italy is still top dog when it comes to food, and whichever part of the country you visit offers something different, from bolognese is Bologna to olive oil in Puglia, but our top tip is to prioritise the island of Sicily. Experience the true meaning of la dolce vita as you soak in the sunshine, Aperol Spritz in hand. Our eight-day trip around the island begins with a Sicilian cooking class in Palermo, before heading to the Madonie Mountains and tasting wine in Castelbuono. After a detour on the Aeolian Islands we’ll head to Mount Etna for a hike and lunch on a farm that takes advantage of the volcano’s fertile grounds, before another cooking class in Taormina. Next is the charming old Sicilian markets of Syracuse and then the beautiful baroque towns of Val di Noto, home to fine chocolate producers and the world’s greatest gelato, before ending the trip with a farewell dinner in Catania.

Arequipa, Peru - September 1, 2015: Interior of central market in Arequipa, Peru.

Peru, for two underrated culinary capitals

Peru isn’t the first country that comes to mind when scoping out must-visit foodie destinations, but don’t be fooled, this country has much more to offer than old Inca ruins. Our nine-day trip features visits to Machu Picchu, Piuray Lagoon, Colca Canyon and much more, but all that is sandwiched between visits to two excellent culinary cities. We start in Cusco, where we’ll visit San Pedro market to pick up some ingredients for our traditional Peruvian cooking class, followed by a tasting session at Three Monkeys Coffee. Our trip is then bookended in Arequipa, a city famed for its stunning array of picanterias – delightful little lunchtime restaurants that will have you wishing your stomach was an endless vacuum. You’ll walk off the calories on a city tour before reconvening for one last night of Peruvian delicacies at our group farewell dinner.

Stellenbosch, Cape Winelands

South Africa, for melting-pot cuisines and rolling vineyards

There are two culinary highlights on our incredible 11-day adventure along South Africa’s Garden Route. The first is in our starting point, Cape Town, where, as well ascending Table Mountain and learning about the city’s complicated history, we’ll also visit the Bo Kaap district. This Muslim community in Cape Town is a wonderful example of the city’s contemporary melting pot of cultures, and what better way to get to know the Cape Malay people than by embarking on a cooking masterclass with them? Their aromatic fusion of African and Eastern cuisines is food for the soul. The rest of our trip features a few days on a luxury game reserve and an exploration of the Western Cape coast, but foodie’s will rejoice at our detour to the Cape Winelands. The famous wine region is a joy to behold, as is the iconic Franschhoek hop-on, hop-off wine tram, dedicated solely to taking people from vineyard to vineyard. We’ll spend an afternoon winery-hopping before merrily returning to our gorgeous country lodge for the evening.

A woman having Middle Eastern cuisine, including falafel and pita

Jordan, for a cooking masterclass in a local family home

We love Middle Eastern cuisine, and there’s no place better to dive head first into it than Jordan, which is exactly what you can do on our eight-day adventure. We start in the bustling streets of Amman, where you’ll sample the best falafel and hummus you’ve ever had on a street food tour, before washing it all down with a tasting session of delicious Jordanian wines. We’ll head on to the ancient city of Petra and the nearby village of Umm Sayhoun, where we’ll enter a local family home for a cooking class covering everything from appetisers to desserts. We’ll go on to dine and sleep under the stars at a Bedouin-style desert camp in Wadi Rum, before exploring the cafes and markets of Aqaba and tuck into a farewell lunch in Mujib Biosphere Reserve, the lowest nature reserve on Earth, and home to the Dead Sea.
